Legal Age To Get Married Will Increase in England and Wales

This video is created by Karen Cole of Legal Minded Friends to provide you with information on New Laws regarding the age to get married in England and Wales. The New Act will come into effect in February 2023.
It will be a criminal offence to preform a marriage or enter into a civil partnership under 18 yrs old, and there could be fines and prison sentencing terms up to 7 years.

If a person is married in another country and they move (become domicile) to England or Wales, the marriage will not be recognised, in England or Wales.

The other major change parents and court will no longer be able to give permission for those people aged 16 to 17 years old to enter into a marriage or civil partnership, or force a person to get married.
