Luke 16 "Eternally Minded"

The theme of this chapter is “using the present to invest in the future.’
You will discover how important it is to invest in your future…which… and this is important…means an eternal future for everyone.
Jesus has turned His attention to His disciples…although verse 14 tells us that the Pharisees were nearby listening.
Jesus begins this parable by setting the stage…the main characters are a rich man…very possibly an absentee landowner who leased land to farmers.
And a manager of his properties or a steward…a steward is someone who doesn’t own the land or house…but manages it for his master.
This steward was made the overseer of this rich man’s property just as Joseph was made overseer of Potiphar’s property.
It was a position that garnered a great deal of trust…this steward made all the decisions regarding this man’s property.
But it appears this manager wasn’t to be trusted…Jesus isn’t specific about what he has done…only to say he has wasted his masters’ possessions.
That word wasted is the same word used in the parable of the lost son who wasted his inheritance on wild living.
The important thing however, to take away from this is that he was not being a good steward of what he had been entrusted with.
