"I've been though several of the 8" $100.00 big box store type bench grinders over the last 40 years and was hoping to move up a couple of steps in precision by buying this grinder. The $1000.00 + for a true industrial quality grinder like a Baldor was just out of the question and I was hoping this JET will fill the gap between the cheap big box and true industrial. It didn't. I've been doing a lot of home machining and I needed a quality grinder for sharpening, tool steel, HSS and carbide cutting tools. To start out with, the tool rests were just about totally useless, the front and back edges were not parallel to the grinding wheel making it impossible to dress the wheel parallel to the axis of rotation. I half expected the tool rests to be a problem, so I was ready for that and fabricated my own out of 1/4" steel plate and bolted them to the cast iron wheel guard. Now the front and back edges of the tool rest were parallel to the axis of rotation, but, the flat surface of the tool rest angled down several degrees!!! I eventually determined that the cast iron wheel guard was poorly machined and did not sit flat on the end of the grinder, it was canted off vertical by at least 3-4 degrees. I was able to put it on my milling machine and trued up the mating surface. Next, I installed a new left wheel for sharpening carbide cutting tools, it wobbled badly. No matter what I did as far as rotating the wheel and the heavy machined washers relative to the shaft, the wobble never would go away. I finally made an arbor and checked the washers on my lathe, they had .003 to .005 run-out each. I turned them flat and got the wobble down to an acceptable level. In all, it took me a full day to figure out where all the bugs in this machine lived. I was able to correct the deficiencies and I expect that this grinder will serve me fine. It is more like a grinder kit than a finished product. If all you are going to do with it is sharpen lawn mower blades, it will do. But so will the $80 grinder. If you need precision for sharpening fine steel, you'll have to work at it to get it out of this grinder..."

"I worked for years in industries. The floor grinders that they used were top of the line 12" Baldors. Those are the best you can buy. They are also the most expensive you can buy ranging up into the thousands of dollars. Now if your just a retired home owner like me you cant afford that or justify spending that kind of money for a home shop. So, I looked for used grinders. Well, they still want an arm and a leg for a good used one. Then I saw this one on Amazon. Brand new and at a very reasonable price. Ive had it in my wish list for a year watching all the reviews. I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy it. I am glad I did. I've only had it for 6 months now but it sure starts and runs like one of those Baldors I was use to. When you hit the switch, it is instant on. No slow drag on start up waiting for momentum to build up so you can do work. This thing is ready before you can get your hand off the switch. I have yet to bog this grinder down. Not sure if it would stand up to industrial use but I believe it will work for the home owner just fine for life. Be aware there are two versions of this grinder. One is about a hundred dollars cheaper and does not have cast iron guards around the wheels, only stamped steel. It also has a cheaper on/off switch. Just FYI."
