The Size of the Social Unit: Collective Envy

The saying goes: misery loves company. Under a large state, it’s more appropriate to say: envy loves company. Regardless of how absurd the idea is, it will have its supporters. The envy permeates through society. It results in tyranny, perpetual war, and all sorts of aggressions. Collective envy doesn’t confine itself to one aggression. The goal is to spread envy to as many people as possible to gain support for aggression.

There are many absurd ideas that float around today. If the social unit is very small, these absurd ideas can be tried. Other small social units can see if it works. Millions of people don’t have to agree on an idea. Just take a quick look through history. The various evil ideas would have caused much less damage if the social unit was smaller. They could only get away with these ideas because they had the force of the majority behind them.
