San Diego Zoo pumped more than 8 tons of white, cold, fluffy snow into their snow leopards’ habitat, marking the first time the animals experienced snow. These magnificent cats are native to the cold, steep mountains in central Asia, and zoo officials say that providing all animals a close resemblance of their natural habitat keeps them stimulated and active, allowing them to exhibit their natural behaviors. For millennia, the snow leopard thrived in harsh mountainous terrain, but their population numbers are now declining due to climate change and has marked them as an endangered species.
