ABA Just OK? Camacho AMERICAN BARREL AGED Robusto - CIGAR REVIEWS by CigarScore

Camacho is no stranger to CigarScore. In fact, the Camacho Connecticut is one of our favorite cigars to pair with coffee. So, when I had the chance to grab a Camacho sampler on Cigar Monster and get today's cigar with it, I was super-stoked!

Today we're smoking and reviewing the Camacho American Barrel Aged Robusto, a cigar I tried to review a year ago, but got rained out. Since this is a bourbon-barrel-aged cigar, and (I assumed) it has a corojo wrapper (but it does not), we're sure to be in for an interesting experience.

(What I'd love to see is some vanilla-creaminess from the Nicaraguan tobacco to balance out the bourbon, but we'll see what happens.)

After cutting the cap, the cold draw offered up flavors that were very much like the aroma wafting off of a snifter of bourbon. Once the Camacho ABA was lit, the aroma of the smoke was delicious. The first few flavors were undeniably corojo, so I expected to be in for a spicy afternoon.

Through the middle of the Camacho American Barrel Aged Robusto, I had an uneven burn, and I had to re-torch the cigar for the second time at around the 35 minute mark.

Additionally, instead of the flavors of vanilla, caramel, and spice, I'm getting flavors that are a little sour.

Final Thoughts

After smoking the Camacho American Barrel Aged Robusto for just over an hour, I can say that this cigar is not worth $11. There were some construction issues with an uneven burn and a somewhat tight draw.

If it were $5-6, the ABA might've earned a better CigarScore, but that's not the case. In fact, if you're looking for a similar cigar but one with better taste at a better value, check out the $9 Perdomo 20th Anniversary Robusto.

That said, it wasn't all bad. The flavors were okay. The construction was okay. But for the value, there are better cigars out there for the price. For these reasons, the Camacho American Barrel Aged Robusto earns a CigarScore 3.
