Responding to Gregory Coles' Criticism of the Landmark Reintegrative Therapy Study

In 2021, The Journal of Human Sexuality published a study by Carolyn Pela and Philip Sutton about the use of Nicolosi's Reintegrative Therapy for exploring sexual attraction fluidity. This was a landmark study--the first ever prospective study on the beneficence and effectiveness of therapy for sexual attraction change. But, Gregory Coles, a well-known "Side B gay Christian," from Preston Sprinkle's "Center for Faith, Sexuality & Gender," is not impressed. In a few different blog posts this summer, he shows he has an axe to grind over this research article, making his case with some rather curious arguments. So, let's give a thorough response!

Addressing the misunderstanding of the APA's condemnation of SAFE-T (sexual attraction fluidity exploration in therapy). I realize that I forgot to mention when rebutting Gregory's point that other journals are more credible than the Journal of Human Sexuality that since the early 2000s, the APA has explicitly stated their mission to promote pro-LGBT causes at a grassroots level and oppose what they consider "homophobic therapies," which is how they refer to SAFE-T. https://youtu.be/bWl2TlFfeZ8
