The World is Constantly telling us to hide our light (The Lamp Stand Mark 4:21-25)

Has anyone ever asked you to keep a secret and when they told you, you immediately though this is not something that should be kept a secret? Not because the material was juicy or scandalous but because you knew the content was so important that other people needed to know it if it was true. Someone’s safety, finances, or even life may benefit from the information you were just told, and you promised to keep it a secret. Our modern society is proficient in telling the church that they need to keep secret what God has done for them. They say, you should not share your faith with others, that is something you should keep to yourself or why are you always trying to shove your faith down other throats. They say, take your light put it where it belongs, under a bushel where no one else can see it or be affected by it. So, we have a decision to make, listen to the world and hide our light or listen to God and lift it high for everyone to see.

This is fight in the heart of every believer and it always has been, do I open my mouth on this subject or do I keep it shut. Jesus mentioned the analogy immediately following some deep teaching on Kingdom truths and flat out asks us what the right thing is to do with the light we have been given. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that the higher a light (candle) is lifted the more area it covers and impacts. As believers we are to take the truth of God’s word and let it shine for all to see. We do not do those with arrogance or anger but instead with love and compassion we let the light of God shine to this world. It will not always be the popular thing to do, it may cause us some friction in relationships, but it is exactly what Jesus expects us to do. We must lovingly let the light of Jesus shine to this world through us, no matter the circumstance or situation. We live in a day and time where truth is almost nonexistent in our society as relativism has taken hold of the hearts and minds of many. In this time of great darkness and uncertainty, the most loving thing the church can do is share the truth of God with this world.
