Walking into 1000 Islands Restaurant is like walking into the good old days of community, best hamburgers, pizza, souvlaki around, family business, laughter, hard work. Fifty years of good food and Canadian history.
The 80+ years old Dad (Nick Sabaziotis) made the pizza for us and had a big smile for us. His son made sure everything ran smoothly. The waitress had recently moved from Quebec after a time in Calgary. She was sincere, hard-working.
This little spot in Brockville in 1000 Islands Ontario is everything good in Canada. On King Street, the restaurant has been open since 1970 - over 50 years. Family run. The connections in the community run deep - pictures of teams, and celebs who have dropped by - a hockey jersey signed by Ladouceur - embellish the walls.
Not to mention, the burger and fries, authentic Greek souvlaki and piping hot pizza were truly stellar - reviews online claim "best burger," "favourite pizza," "amazing Greek food" etc and it not without exaggeration.
Remember those restaurants from your youth where they would give you a candy at the end with your bill (a wrapped candy or mint)? This is that kind of restaurant.
To Memories of Canada!
You can watch a video about the restaurant here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_K85Z2sZFfQ featuring Nick and George Sabaziotis called "Member Highlight 2021 - 1000 Islands Pizza" done by the Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce.
