Red Headed woodpecker rescued from the Mississippi River

While paddling out in the middle of the Mississippi River I noticed something struggling in the water. As I approached I saw it was a woodpecker that somehow got stuck in the water and couldn't take off. He was trying to swim to shore but was only heading out farther so of coarse I stopped and pulled him out. He stayed on the deck of the boat for about an hour then jumped down below into the cockpit where he spent another hour.... As I pulled up to the next lock I heard him start pecking at the hull of the boat so I had to get him out before he drilled a hole in the bottom of the boat!.. he flew off after that! good luck little buddy and stay out of the water!
