Dr Nomafrench Mbombo Visits Observatory Forensic Pathology Institute
The Western Cape Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, conducted an oversight visit to the Observatory Forensic Pathology Institute (OFPI) situated at the foot of the Groote Schuur Hospital. This joint venture with the provincial Department of Transport and Public Works, and other stakeholders, is expected to reach construction completion by early in 2023. Once completed, the purpose-built, modern forensic pathology facility, will provide Level 4 forensic services aimed at extracting, analysing and preserving the integrity of evidence in support of the medico-legal investigation of death and in support of the criminal justice system. Much progress has been made, and the three-story building is currently undergoing the final stages of practical completion.
