Family of Marine killed in Afghanistan receives emotional letter on anniversary

Marine Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum was just 20 years old when he was killed in Afghanistan on Aug. 26, 2021. Rylee's wife was nine months pregnant when he was killed. His wife, Gigi, gave birth to a baby girl just 18 days later.

Rylee's Dad, Jim McCollum, is wrestling with grief one year later. He spoke to me about what life has been like one year since his son died. The Gold Star family received an unexpected letter from an Afghan right before the anniversary of Rylee's death that brought them to tears.
