Social Bonding Within A Dominant Lion Coalition

The Majingilane lion coalition engaging in mock pairing behaviour with each other. Many people thing it is a way of showing dominance as it is with some other animals; but within a dominant lion coalition it is a way of strengthening the social bond between them. Many people also like to use this behaviour as an example of homosexuality within the animal kingdom, it is not a particularly good one - technically any behaviour within a same sex group is homosexual as that is what the word means! These lions are brothers and have many lionesses in many prides, and have produced many cubs. Nothing sexual is going on here, no more than a dog dry-humping someone's leg or wrestlers grappling one another in the ring.

A similar interaction between two lions in Kenya made international headlines, one Kenyan politician said the lions should be isolated and that they probably lerned it from the bad behaviour of the tourists they have seen on safari!!!!
