🇩🇪 German Foreign Minister - "no matter what my German voters think, I want to deliver to the people of Ukraine".

Someone's never picked up a book on moral and political philosophy in her life.

Both JJ Rosseau and T. Hobbes social contract theory stated that government exists because of people's consent, and consent is derived from the self-interest of the majority.

(Further, Hobbes held that the obligation to obey civil government is conditional upon the protection of the natural rights of each person.)

It's not clear why this civil servant (much meaning in that title) believes her job is irrespective of her voters.
