Thousands of dead fish wash up in Oakland lake to create a putrid mess

Thousands of fish carcasses have been floating up to the edges of the San Francisco Bay, and the scummy top of Oakland’s Lake Merritt – stewing under the sun and wafting a putrid stench into nearby neighborhoods. The Guardian reported.

For days, the toxic problem has gotten worse as scientists try to figure out what specific conditions may have triggered the fish kills. Fox2 reported.

The toxic bloom began in July and has stretched as far north as San Pablo Bay, roughly 20 miles north of San Francisco, to as far south as the coastlines of San Mateo County, said environmental advocacy organization San Francisco Baykeeper. NBC News reports.
