The IAEA mission has arrived at the Vasilevka checkpoint about an hour away from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant after the Russian Defense Ministry stated it was still ready to guarantee the safety of investigators against repeated shelling by the Kiev regime and fighting in nearby Energodar.

Earlier the IAEA inspectors were forced to negotiate with the Ukrainian military in order to get to the plant which delayed their arrival by three hours, according to a Reuters report. The head of the agency is confident that the mission will reach the station today.

Local authorities said there was an attempt to seize the nuclear power plant and disrupt the inspectors' visit by 60 Ukrainian troops carried out under the control of the British special services, with paratroopers involved trained abroad. The head of Energodar accused Kiev forces of shelling the route being used by the UN nuclear watchdog team.

Director-General of the IAEA Rafael Grossi told reporters "we are not stopping", adding, "we know there is a gray area where the last line of Ukrainian defense and the first line of the Russian occupying forces begins. I believe we have to proceed with this. We have a very important mission to accomplish."
