Lexington Richland 5 Parents CENSORED at School Board Meeting reading Obscene Library Books
Parents in the Lexington-Richland 5 school district read the obscene material that is on the public school library shelves to their school board during the public participation portion of the school board meeting. They were interrupted. They were chastened about children accessing the reading from the internet. The board even voted to stricken their recorded commentary from the record of the meeting minutes.
To be fair, they were concerned about kids listening on the internet... however it is a massive demonstration of hypocrisy. If they can vote to modify internet content containing the contents of the books in question, because they are inappropriate, why won't they vote to modify public school library content, because it is inappropriate 🙄
Many board lawyers around the state are telling parents that an unelected bureaucrat "librarian" is responsible for the books (that way you have no recourse at the voting booth) and another unelected bureaucrat (superintendent) must review their "request" using a specific process. The books are still on the shelves today. This meeting was held in January.
