Matthew Chapter 1

Book of the generation of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham.
Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah and his brethren;
And Judah begat Perez and Zerah of Tamar; and Perez begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aaron;
And Aaron begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Nahson; and Nahson begat Salmon;
And Salmon begat Boaz of Rahab; and Boaz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
And Jesse begat king David; and king David begat Solomon by her who was the wife of Uriah.
And Solomon begat Rehoboam; and Rehoboam begat Abijah; and Abijah begat Asa;
And Asa begat Jehoshaphat; and Jehoshaphat begat Joram; and Jehoram begat Uzziah;
And Uzziah begat Jotham; and Jotham begat Ahaz; and Ahaz begat Hezekiah;
And Hezekiah begat Manasseh; and Manasseh begat Amon; and Amon begat Josiah;
And Josiah begat Jeconiah and his brethren in the deportation to Babylon.
And after the deportation to Babylon, Jeconiah begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zerubbabel;
And Zerubbabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;
And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
And Jacob begat Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called the Christ.
So that all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon until Christ, fourteen generations.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: That when his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to have conceived of the Holy Spirit.
So Joseph, her husband, as was right, and not wanting to disgrace her, tried to leave her secretly.
And as he was planning this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit;
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for he will save his people from their sins.
All this happened to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, who says;
Behold, the virgin shall conceive, and give birth to a son, and they shall call his name EMANUEL, which is translated, God with us.
And Joseph, waking up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took his wife;
And he did not know her until she had given birth to his son, the firstborn; and called his name Jesus.
