As the world pays tribute to the late Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev for ending the Cold War, it overlooks a number of key consequences from his policies, such as the eastward expansion of NATO and some allege - the conflict in Ukraine.
The Russian defense ministry says Kiev forces have struck a radioactive waste processing building at the Zaporozhye nuclear plant. That's as a team from the UN's nuclear watchdog is on its way there, amid rising concerns over what conclusions it will draw.
The EU could be reaching the limits on the weapons available to give to Ukraine and media reports suggest the US could be running low on stocks too, although that claim is firmly rejected by the Pentagon.
