Russia: Putin offers condolences on Gorbachev's death

The last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, has died at age 91. During his time in office, the iron curtain was drawn back, something that many in the west believed unthinkable. Russian President Putin expresses his deepest condolences on the death of Mikhail Gorbachev. In a letter of condolence by Vladimir Putin, part of it is said, “…He led our country during a period, complex, dramatic changes, large scale foreign policy and economic and social challenges, he deeply understood that reforms were necessary. He strove to offer his own solutions to urgent problems…”
