Play It Loud Gameboy - Display Your Collection in Style #Shorts

In this YouTube #Shorts, I show you how I finally displayed one of the neatest pieces in my collection, a Play It Loud Game Boy.

On March 20, 1995, Nintendo released several special edition Game Boy models with colored cases, advertising them in the "Play It Loud!" campaign, known in Japan as Game Boy Bros. The "Play it loud!" series is a simple coloring difference, yet it is extraordinary for the fact that it is an entire set of special colors. This special line of colored Game Boys set a precedent for later Nintendo handhelds; every one of them since has been available in more than one color. Play It Loud! units were manufactured in red, green, black, yellow, white, blue, and clear (transparent), or sometimes called X-Ray in the UK. Most common are yellow, red, clear, and black. Green is fairly scarce but blue and white are the rarest. Blue was a Europe and Japan-only release, white was a Japanese majority release with UK Toys R Us stores also getting it as an exclusive edition to them. The white remains the rarest of all the Play it Loud colors. It was released simultaneously with the Play it Loud! handhelds in the United Kingdom. The Play It Loud's screens also have a darker border than the normal Game Boy.

We purchased our Play It Loud handheld from Live Action Games in Champaign, IL. The original owner had passed away and bequeathed it to the owner of the store. I joked with Adrian about modding it and such but, over 3 years later, the system has remained as it was at the time I bought it.

While this is a cool piece I didn't like just leaving it in its plastic case all the time, so I looked for a way to better display it. The answer was, as it seems a lot of answers are lately, 3D Printing. I headed over to Thingiverse and, not only found a great display stand by Knajcik, it also lets me display 4 games next to the system.

Once I had the print downloaded, I sliced it in Cura and loaded the file into my ANET ET4 3D printer. I opted for blue Hatchbox PLA and began to print. 3 hours later, the print was finished and man, this looks great. It holds the system at a proper angle, and being able to display 4 games next to it is also super cool. The 3D printing community is just amazing, and I am glad I am now creating and printing my own designs as well.
