Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, had died at the age of 91, Russian news agencies cited hospital officials as saying on Tuesday. Gorbachev, who ended the Cold War without bloodshed but failed to prevent the collapse of the Soviet Union, passed away after a 'serious and protracted illness,' according to a statement from Russia's Central Clinical Hospital.
