Minoxidil has been a hair loss treatment since the late 80's, but most people use it in a topical form which was originally marketed as Rogaine. Rogaine has been used by both men and women with variable success. Minoxidil is seeing a resurgence as an oral therapy for hair loss.

When taken orally minoxidil can lower your blood pressure, but can be quite effective in promoting hair growth. I recommend seeing a board certified dermatologist to discuss all the risks and benefits of this therapy.
