Relaxing Music for Sleep, Stress, Depression & Anxiety - Meditation - Therapy
It will help you get rid of your stressful nights and that feeling of not being able to fall asleep. The purpose of this video is to help people out there who are going through hard times and severe stress.
"Rain is predictable, calming, stable, and non-threatening," says Dr. Shelby Harris, a behavioral sleep medicine specialist. According to Harris, steady rainfall noises help lull the brain into falling asleep, block outside noises, and frequently induce a more meditative state that brings on relaxation.
This unique rhythm can be used in many areas of life. “Rain has a regular, predictable pattern,” says Emily Mendez, MS, EdS. “Our brain processes it as a calming, non-threatening noise. Which is why there are so many relaxation and meditation videos that feature the sound of rain.”
Do you know that feeling of relief when you enter a forest after staying in the city for a while? Being in and around nature is good for your well-being, and the same goes for the sounds you find in nature. Natural sounds, such as the sounds of animals, water, and wind, are associated with lower levels of stress, fewer annoyances, a better mood, and even with better cognitive functioning⁴.
We, humans, perceive the sounds of nature as pleasant, and pleasant sounds are associated with better health⁵. When asked, people report that they feel more energetic and less stressed when hearing natural sounds, as opposed to listening to urban sounds you find in cities⁶. Furthermore, after a stressful event, natural sounds help with a quicker recovery, reducing stress faster than urban sounds⁶.
As you may have guessed, the sound of rain is a natural sound and is thus likely to give similar types of benefits as other sounds of nature. This might explain why the sound of rain helps with relaxation and productivity. Whenever it starts to rain, nature knocks on your window, bringing you its pleasant sound associated with energy, good health, and a good mood.
It might be clear why the sound of rain helps with relaxing, but why does it seem to help with focus and productivity as well? According to a 2019 study⁷, the sound of rain boosts performance while doing mathematical calculations, because it can influence brain activity.
In the study, participants solved mathematical problems while listening to either rain sounds, classical music, or silence. The researchers found that the participants who listened to either the rain sounds or the classical music performed better than the participants who completed the study in silence. The sound ensured they were more accurate and faster in solving mathematical problems.
