Looking Back on 30 Years of Kirby Games on Nintendo Platforms
In this episode, we talk about our favorite memories as we look back on 30 Years of Kirby Games on Nintendo Platforms.
2022 marks the 30th anniversary of our favorite pink puffball from HAL Laboratories and Nintendo, that being Kirby. 2022 is also the year that Nintendo launched Kirby & the Forgotten Land for the Nintendo Switch, a 3D platformer that definitely has vibes of Super Mario Odyssey. We've played the demo and are super excited for this release, which also got us thinking back to some of our favorite memories with Kirby. But we also wanted to get some of our friends involved to see what their favorite memories were as well.

10:02 - My favorite Kirby Memory is more recent than the others on this list and it has to do more with where and how I got it than anything else. I wasn't the biggest Kirby fan when I was younger, the series just started when I had passed the target audience, or so I thought at the time. It's almost like how I passed on Yoshi's Island back in the day. After the launch of the Wii, I picked up some of the Kirby games for both the Wii and Wii U, and absolutely loved them. I thought they were super cute, super fun, and just wonderful. That's why when I was in Germany in 2018, I found a deal I couldn't pass up.
When I was in Lubeck, Germany I was able to do some game hunting. I found a store with great stuff from the NES, Super NES, even forward to Playstation and Xbox games. Their selection was so cool, and they even invited me to take a look at some of their storage and overstock system areas. They were super gracious and wonderful to speak with, but I was especially shocked with one of the items I found there.
See, German is a PAL territory, but they actually had a selection of NTSC titles. They actually had a complete-in-box copy of Kirby's Adventure for the NES, and it was an NTSC copy at that! It even had the little styrofoam spacer in the bottom of the box! The box was super crispy, and the manual looked practically new. From the box, it looked and played beautifully, and I am thrilled to have it in my collection.
You can't buy stories and experiences like this. Sure, I could have gotten a CIB Kirby elsewhere, probably a little less expensive too, but this one came from my first experience out of the country. I love that, and I will be hard-pressed to sell this, or the other games I brought back from Germany.
Looking forward, I am super excited for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, not just for me but to share with my daughter as well. She's a little too young to play it yet, but I can see it being one of the first games she does play. The demo was super cute, really fun, and something I can see her really getting into. For now, we still have to wait for it to arrive, but when it does we are sure to enjoy it as a family.
