Red Dead Revolver and DHG (With commentary)- Part 5

Red Dead Revolver (2004) was developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by, guess who? Rockstar again!

Red Dead Revolver is a linear Western shooter with lots of silliness and action. This is entirely emblematic of Rockstar in this time period. Back before R* developed one game per console generation and had undying multiplayer cash cows, they did work, and made tons of games. Red Dead Revolver takes from the semi-serious nature of roughly half the games R* made at that time, while the other half were quite serious (Manhunt, I'm looking at you!) and uses that silliness as a template for a fun game. Nothing here breaks any new ground minus the duels and Dead Eye. We all know Dead Eye from the newer Red Dead games, but the duels were challenging, somewhat irritating interactions that gave the game a unique feel. Games such as Call of Juarez would go on to make this dueling mechanic a stable in their games. It is a fun romp through the digital Western game world to see where the now legendary Red Dead got its roots, but it is entirely unlike the 2 sequels.

Red Dead Revolver is available on Xbox and PS2.

I will give my rating for the game once it is completed based off of my new and simple rating system. The game will get one of five ratings based solely on my experience while playing through it: Horrible (rare rating), Bad, Average, Good, and Great (rare rating).
