Sega did some amazing things in the '80s, The Master System was, in a lot of ways, vastly superior to the NES, it just didn't sell as well. The library of games is terrific, they look awesome, and they sound even better too. While I have a Sega Master System if I could reduce the amount of space on my game stand it would be really awesome. Sega makes their own power base converter, which allows you to play Sega Master System cartridges and the game cards through the 16-bit system. The problem is that these are silly expensive right now, over $125 for a loose one. On a recent trek through eBay, I found the master Drive cartridge adapter, and best of all, it was under $25.
