A Bird's Eye View of Luling Texas - Oil Rigs. Watermelon, Trains, BBQ & a River. #lulingtx

We spent about an hour visiting areas of Luling Texas on a Sunday afternoon. Not much happening, other than a couple of trains passing thru in opposite directions, one after the other. Their water tower, north of town on Hwy 80, promoted the river, so we stopped by Zedler Mill Park to check out the dam on the San Marcos River. Nice place to visit as a tourist, or on the second weekend of June when the Texas Water Safari passes thru.

Luling has a big celebration at the end of June for their Watermelon Thump. They're known for all the oil rigs in the area, plus apparently lots of yummy BBQ. We didn't notice any BBQ restaurants open, or we would have tested that reputation while we were there. There is another river park west of Luling, off Hwy 90, where the San Marcos River passes under the highway, that is more friendly for family access to the river.

Luling has a population of under 6k (as of the 2020 census) and is located north of IH-10 at Hwy 80 & Hwy 90.
