Donald Trump sues US justice department over FBI Mar-a-Lago raid

"Former US president Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit in a Florida court to stop the FBI from continuing to review documents it seized during its ""unnecessary, unwarranted, and unAmerican"" raid on his Mar-a-Lago home.

Mr Trump's legal team filed the motion in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

He requested the judge to freeze a justice department review of files taken from his home.

The motion also demands an independent third party attorney to oversee the investigation of the seized material.

Mr Trump has also called for the justice department to give him more information on exactly what they took.

In a statement on Monday evening (local time), the former US president decried the FBI raid on his home as ""illegal"" and ""unconstitutional""."
