The strike hit a street in Kharkiv’s historical district, leaving a large crater and damaging residential buildings.

“There are no military objects, no military equipment. Only residential buildings with regular citizens near the place of impact,” Kharkiv police officer Andrii Sharnin told Reuters.

Shopkeeper Tetiana Zviahintseva surveyed the damage to her store on the ground floor of the building.

“Horror and nightmare – the Russians torture our city. The endless shelling exhausts everybody. The most important thing is everyone is alive,” said Zviahintseva.

Russia has repeatedly denied targeting civilian areas after launching what it called a "special military operation" in February, despite mounting evidence that its missiles have hit residential areas across the country.
