The Big Lie: SI joint dysfunction causes pain! (Learn the facts)

I have been repulsed from the beginning of my career almost 30 years ago that so many people with gluteal region pain, lower back pain or pain down the leg are given the diagnosis SI joint dysfunction. It literally became a basket diagnosis for so many people with the medical establishment using it enough to make people think it is actually something real. It is not; in fact it is pure bullshit.

The Yass Method prides itself on science and fact. The method is based on the premise that each tissue creates a specific set of symptoms to help identify that tissue as the one in distress eliciting those very specific symptoms. This is part of the emergency feedback system that developed through evolution of the body. Any attempt to sidestep this understanding diminishes the chance of getting a correct diagnosis and therefore getting the right treatment to resolve the distress of the affected tissue.

SI joint dysfunction is a made up term with no real meaning. First, the SI joint is a joint and therefore the concepts of a joint hold true. Just like any tissue, the tissue must be in distress to elicit symptoms. Since joints provide range of motion, for the joint to be in distress, it must have a loss of range of motion to indicate distress. With this diagnosis, I have never had a person come to me where the referring practitioner who provided the diagnosis SI joint dysfunction looked at the range of motion of the joint. In every case I have ever treated, the range of motion of the joint was 100% and therefore the diagnosis of SI joint dysfunction was immediately eliminated as a diagnosis because clearly the joint was functioning perfectly eliminating any chance of it being in distress. I would suggest you seek care from somebody who knows what the purpose of the SI joint is and the types of range of motion that should exist.

Next, understand the fact a joint can only elicit pain at the affected joint; end of story. This bullshit story that it can elicit pain all of the lower, gluteal region or leg is a fallacy. Nerves can refer symptoms, muscles can refer symptoms, joints CAN'T. Unless somebody presses directly in the SI joint and elicits pain but not even a hundredth of an inch away there is no pain can it be said the pain is coming from the joint. Ah, but you won't find that. In fact you will probably find pain from the sacral spine diagonally through the gluteal region to the hip joint. Why that sounds like the exact path of the piriformis muscle. It attaches from all 5 sacral spine and shockingly passes the SI joint. If symptoms run down the back of the leg, then mostly the piriformis is impinging on the sciatic nerve. None of these symptoms are coming from the SI joint.

My favorite part of the lie is the bullshit story that the SI joint dysfunction can mimic a herniated disc therefore create pain in the same locations. How convenient this psychotic thought is. Two tissues with the same symptoms? That seems to go against evolutions attempt to isolate specific symptoms to specific tissues. And secondly I guess when all the treatment for the herniated disc fails then now can move you toward treatment for the SI joint dysfunction including what can only be seen as insane; the fusion of the SI joint.

Here's a thought. Getting care from anyone promoting this nonsense is a guarantee of sustained pain and loss of time and money. Every bit of evidence, theoretical, clinical and scientific proves this to be one of the biggest lies perpetuated by the medical establishment. If you are tired of living this lie, then it is time for you to get the Yass Method. Today can be day one of living pain-free and fully functional for the rest of your life.
