Fulvic acid is a substance produced from dead plants during the microbial degradation in the soil. Fulvic acid is a component of a substance called shilajit that has been used for roughly three thousand years in traditional Indian medicine. Shilajit contains fifteen to twenty percent fulvic acid for its immune-modulation, antioxidant, diuretic, antihypertensive and hypoglycaemic effects. It has been reported that the anti-inflammatory properties of fulvic acid is due to its ability to reduce the release of proinflammatory mediators from cell. Fulvic acid is good for conditions that are associated with overactive immune cells like Asthma, allergies, and eczema. Moreover, fulvic acid has been reported to exhibit antioxidant properties. It has been shown to neutralize superoxide radicals other ROS outside of the cell. Inside the cells, humic acid increases mitochondrial efficiency and increases the production of ATP, which increases muscular strength and power. Due to the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of fulvic acid, its therapeutic potential in chronic inflammatory diseases and diabetes has been reported.
