Platelet-rich plasma (P-R-P) therapy is a medical treatment where your own blood is extracted, spun in a centrifuge to separate the different components, and then injected back into the body. It's been used to treat osteoarthritis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, wound healing, and chronic inflammation.

This therapy is a treatment that uses taken blood and separates it into its components. The idea behind this treatment is that the platelet-rich plasma (P-R-P) will help heal injuries and pain.

P-R-P therapy is used to treat various orthopedic conditions, sports injuries, arthritis, tendonitis, post-operative inflammation and musculoskeletal pain.

In other terms, platelet-rich plasma (P-R-P) therapy is a medical treatment that uses your own blood to heal you. The procedure involves drawing your blood into a syringe and spinning it down, separating out the platelets and healing growth factors. These platelets contain important healing proteins called cytokines which help stimulate cell growth and wound repair.

The treatment is quite similar to the idea of blood transfusion that has been around since 1665. It has three phases:

Phase 1. Platelet rich plasma (P-R-P) is taken from the patient’s own blood;

Phase 2. The P-R-P solution is centrifuged so that the platelets are concentrated in one tube and the red blood cells in another;

Phase 3. The concentrated P-R-P solution is injected into the site of injury or joint to help heal it.

One of the types of P-R-P therapy is known as autologous bone marrow derived P-R-P injection or “bone-marrow-P-R-P”. It involves extracting a patient’s blood from their arm and separating out the platelets from it before injecting them back into the injury site.

Despite some scientific evidence on the effectiveness of P-R-P therapy, not all studies show the same results.
