Leopard Loses A Meal To Lions | Maasai Mara Safari | Zebra Plains

The leopard queen of Kaboso ( or just Kaboso for short) had caught a young wildebeest as a herd crossed through the river. We arrived as she was dragging it to the shade. After storing the meal in some thick bush she went to fetch her cub. On the way to her cub she noticed some approaching lions (Enkoyonai pride lionesses) that had come to check out the wildebeest alarm calls. The lions soon picked up on the scent of the leopard's prize and, as soon as they found it, began eating. The young wildebeest was just the wrong size for the leopard to be able to hoist into the safety of a tree. as Kaboso had seen the lions heading to the spot where her meal was, and knew it was likely lost, she did not return with the cub at all.
