Sturgis, South Dakota has a wild rep for the biker conventions spanning the last 85 years, but this natural meeting place is part of a larger Black Hills antique and vintage trade! Our ride starts here as we look for the fun, wild and different in both people and objects in this entry point to the wild west.

Fun is the feel of the one Sturgis store open this Monday, where Jessie welcomes us to Unique to Antique. Squirrels in a table, an amazing yacht masthead and a t-shirt that puts biker dudes in their place are the order of the day in this emporium. A really cool ram-footed 1920s tray table fits perfectly in the one flat space left in my van!

From there, it's a trip to a truly wild western town. We drive through a Deadwood summer storm, including a drive-by (appropriately enough) of the saloon where Wild Bill Hickok lost his bid to play Aces over Eights. On the far side is Antique Emporium & Deadwood Decor, where colorful Fulper candlesticks and a wall of pockets (including an early Treasure Craft) are color spots in a place that equally boasts historic lighting from the area and the innards of a piano!

We keep on trying on this rainy Monday, driving all the way to the center of the USA in our quest for vintage bargains to resell...but alas, even the historic home in the middle of it all is shuttered for the day. We'll have to come back for more in the Black Hills!
