There is an ongoing monkeypox outbreak in three WHO regions that are not endemic for monkeypox virus; five European countries, USA and Canada. Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox virus is a linear double-stranded DNA virus that belongs to poxviridae family. This virus is transmitted from person to person by respiratory droplets during prolonged face to face contact. Initial symptoms of the disease are flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, and lymphadenopathy. After 1 to 2 days, patients develop mucosal lesions in the mouth followed by skin lesions of the face and extremities. Skin lesions change through macular, papular, vesicular, and pustular phase over the following 2 to 4 weeks. Over the subsequent 7 to 14 days, crusts are formed and desquamate. In most cases, the condition naturally resolved around 3 to 4 weeks after all crusts fall off.
