With aging, blood vessels such as major arteries in our body get narrowed. Arteries in the human heart are particularly susceptible to this phenomenon. These are called coronary arteries. This condition is known as atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis if not treated always leads to cardiovascular diseases such as angina, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, heart failure, and vasculitis. Atherosclerosis is the deposition of fats in the inner lumen of the arteries. Coronary arteries are most likely to get affected. So clogging of arteries causes heart attacks in such a high-risk group. The main causes of clogging of arteries are uncontrolled diabetes, blood pressure, smoking habits, consumption of fats-containing diets, and a sedentary lifestyle.

There are safe and effective foods like fruits, vegetables, and proteins that may help in the prevention of clogging of arteries. Hence reducing the risk of a heart attack.

The first such diet is berries. Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and cranberries have minerals, vitamins, and fiber ingredients. These ingredients act as anti-inflammatory agents. Studies have shown berries reducing the atherosclerotic agents such as LDL, fatty acids, and cholesterol from the body. So berries are good for preventing heart attacks. Beans are rich in fiber. These have been proven to be effective against cholesterol in the body. By keeping cholesterol and LDL within normal limits, beans help in the prevention of arteries from getting clogged. So beans are recommended for patients with heart diseases. Fish meal and fish oil both are equally beneficial for people who are at risk of developing cardiovascular health problems. Omega 3 fatty acid is the key ingredient in fish. It is well known for its anti-inflammatory role. It reduces fat deposition inside all major and minor blood vessels. Therefore fish oil must be advised to the people who are at risk of developing atherosclerosis or clogging of arteries. Another food item on the menu should be tomatoes and tomato-related products. Tomatoes contain carotene lycopene. Lycopene is the biological molecule that improves HDL in the body and reduces inflammation by keeping cholesterol at its normal level. Tomatoes with olive oil are a double-edged sword. This combination provides significant protection from clogging of arteries. Onion is another such vegetable with enormous benefits for the health of our blood vessels. Onions contain sulfur products. Which are not only anti-inflammatory in nature but also prevent clumping of platelets in the blood vessels. Onions also release nitric oxide which is a vasodilator agent. So onions must be part of the diet for a high-risk group of people. Fruits, citrus fruits such as lemon, and orange are often recommended. These contain flavonoids, minerals, and vitamins. These ingredients oxidize LDL which is called bad cholesterol in the body. By reducing LDL content in the body, citrus fruits lessen the risk of arteries getting narrowed. Bottom line is that fruits and vegetables are rich in minerals, vitamins, and fibers. This in turn reduces overall fat content in the blood vessels. Ultimately chances of heart attacks are reduced by adding all these foods to the daily menu.
