Ukraine's president on Friday said the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant remains "very risky" after two of its six reactors were reconnected to the grid following shelling that caused Europe's largest nuclear power plant to be disconnected for the first time in its history. Reuters reported.

Zelenskyy warned that it was only due to backup electricity kicking in that the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia power plant was able to operate safely. CNBC reported.

The news comes one day after the emergency protection systems were triggered when two operating reactor units were disconnected from the power grid when power lines were damaged by shelling. Fox News reported.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree ordering an increase in his country’s armed forces by 137,000. That comes as the Kremlin’s onslaught on Ukraine enters its seventh month. CNBC reported.
