Harpal Brar - Why do we celebrate the Soviet and allied Victory over Fascism in 2022?

Harpal Brar, founding chairman of the CPGB-ML, gives a profound message on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the victory over fascism in WW2.

On this day, the red flag was raised over the reichstag, while the Fuhrer committed suicide in his bunker. This was a profound victory of the working people of the USSR and the wider socialist movement over the most powerful imperialist military force ever assembled, that had wrought death and destruction across Europe and the world in the name of the exploiting capitalist classes and their supremacist ideologues. We are in no doubt - no act of historical revisionism can obscure from us - that this was a victory for humanity, for workers, for women, for all oppressed nationalities, for freedom and a vindication of the vitality and correct leadership offered to that great movement by the Soviet Communist Party, with Joseph Stalin at its head.

We will never forget the heroic sacrifices of the peoples of the Soviet Union, who gave 27 million of their sons and daughters to vanquish Nazi Fascism and German Imperialism - especially when its modern imperialist heir, US, UK, EU, joined in the aggressive military formation that is NATO, is using its fascist proxies to fight a nightmarish war of destruction in Ukraine, and again is threatening the peace of the entire world.

Long live freedom of the working people. Victory to our struggles and endeavours. Long live communism!
