This discovery by US scientists turns the B-52 Stratofortress into an air monster.

The b-52 stratafortress is a long-range heavy bomber designed to carry out a multipurpose mission that was created to carry, a large number of weapons and is now considered an important part of the United States strategic bombing force.

The B-52H Stratofortress is a long-range heavy bomber that can perform a variety of missions. The bomber is capable of flying at high subsonic speeds at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet (15,166.6 meters). It can carry nuclear-guided or precision-guided conventional weapons with precision navigation capabilities around the world.

In conventional conflict, the B-52 can conduct strategic strike, close air support, air interdiction, air counterattack and maritime operations.

During Desert Storm, the B-52 delivered 40 percent of all weapons dropped by coalition forces. It is particularly effective when used for marine surveillance and can assist the US Navy in anti-ship and mine-laying operations. In two hours, two B-52s can monitor 140,000 square miles (364,000 square kilometers) of sea level.

All B-52s can be equipped with two electro-optical display sensors, forward-looking infrared, and an advanced targeting pod to enhance targeting, combat assessment and flight safety, further enhancing their combat capabilities.

Pilots wear night vision goggles, or NVG, to improve their vision during night operations. Night vision goggles provide greater safety during night operations by increasing the pilot's ability to visually clear the terrain, increasing peacetime and combat situational awareness of the flight crew and increasing their ability to visually acquire other aircraft.
