LEADERS KNOW THEIR LANE AND THEY FOCUS THEIR EFFORTS THERE.

It’s easy to think “a pro at something” is a pro at everything. That is seldom the case. A great sales person does not always make a great sales rep. A great ball player does not always make a great coach. A great student does not always make a great teacher.

Please understand, the marks of greatness are often exhibited on many levels. Any high achiever who is willing to put in the hard work, demonstrates the toughness needed to see a project though and shows up for the long arduous practices will be a high achiever in more than one area.

A disciplined athlete may be great at more than one sport. An incredible scientist may be good at math as well as physics and other academic disciplines. A great orator my also be an incredible thinker and writer. A persuasive attorney may be great at politics or teaching as well.

But the bridge of greatness does not always mean crossing from a great athlete to a great politician. Nor does it mean every great scientist will have communication and relational skills to be a teacher, Sheldon??

But leaders must understand their strength zones as well. Elite as they may be, most often leaders have one or two areas where the really shine. They should focus their efforts in those areas and delegate the areas the don’t. Humility to know the difference is an absolute must.
