MY POINT OF VIEW MIGHT OFFEND YOU. CAN YOU HANDLE IT? by J Loren Norris
MY POINT OF VIEW MIGHT OFFEND YOU. CAN YOU HANDLE IT?
“It’s your point of view which makes you unique. Otherwise you’re generic like the millions of other people who do what you do.” Seth Godin
“The truth by its nature is offensive because humans by their nature are not truthful.” J Loren Norris
There are beliefs I hold which are not completely true and I wrestle with them because I have believed them so long they have become comfortable like a well worn pair of shoes.
There are truths I know which I wrestle with because I know that conforming to them demands confrontation inside of me.
There are opinions I hold which I keep to myself because I know they are NOT shared by millions of people. The truth is, those same opinions are most likely shared by millions of others.
Daily I express my thoughts, share some experiences, ponder the effect and outcomes and expose my ideas through this exercise called Leading Leaders Podcast.
Daily I wonder just how far I can go in this world of political correctness and spontaneous offense in sharing my true point of view.
Daily I wonder of the the social media monitors, the social justice warriors, and those who wear their opinions and emotions on their sleeve like a badge will call me out, shut me down or silence me in some way.
Daily, the limited number of people who see this video and read my words encounter a sliver of who I am and what I think.
But then there are a select few who engage...
These are people from all walks of life. All races, all education levels, all levels of business, all levels of income and influence. They are people who challenge the way I think and who are open to being challenged in the way they think.
They are people from opposite ends of the political spectrum and the religious spectrum. People like Kasonga Kasongaa and Babo Kabasu Babu Katulondi , like Loralee Humpherys and Sion Alford, like Robert Parkerson and Mike Arnold, like Edris Ahmady and Nelson Amadigwe, like Jacob Jacob R Miles III and Jason Rapert, like Laurel Rolls and Thelma Wells.
We sit for hours in the coffee shop or over lunch or on FaceTime. We discuss politics, religion and relationships, sometimes in a heated exchange. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we cannot.
But in the end one foundational truth remains. We are humans, with passionate ideas and a deep regard for other humans. In my observation, in my opinion, that’s what it means to be a thinking American!
