Martha asks Jesus to reprimand Mary for sitting and listening to Jesus teaching instead of helping her host the house guests. Instead, Jesus supports Mary’s choice. Sitting at a Rabbi’s feet was not insignificant in the first century, especially for women. Our cultural standards are not Jesus’ or God’s standards. But that’s not the only reason Jesus commended Mary’s choice.
