Use of word pictures presumes and relies on the idea that every hearer of your word picture shares the same emotional engagement with the scene as teller of the story.

Remember, the deer and the hunter lived the same story. They certainly experienced it differently and carried away different emotions... if any at all. The victim and the perpetrator do not tell the same story, from the same encounter.

To presume you are “recreating a moment” where every hearer will experience the same emotions you did when you lived it, is to assume you know the past and present emotional state of everyone who is hearing you.

Beware when telling stories, the emotions you can conjure, evoke or invoke are a powerful tool. They can be used for great good, or great evil. They can be used this way outside the scope of intent, if they are outside the scope o awareness.
