The Importance of Family Worship – Deuteronomy 6:7 You Shall Teach Them Diligently to Your Children

The importance of family worship is in the Old and New Testaments. Since families are at home together because of the Coronavirus, Pastor Scott recorded his family worship, modeling for other families what they can easily do too. The video includes them coming together at the table, singing some worship songs, reading the Bible together, and praying for some requests.

Here's the accompanying podcast episode: https://www.scottlapierre.org/podcast/importance-of-family-worship/

Much of the responsibility rests on the fathers' shoulders, but mothers and children play a part too. The following post discusses how God established a husband's headship at creation, expecting them to lead in the home: https://www.scottlapierre.org/god-established-husbands-headship/

You can jump to 5:50 if you want to see when we actually begin, but I left the first few minutes because I wanted it to be real. You can see how messy and loud the LaPierre family home is, even minutes before (and then during) family worship.

Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." The question isn’t, “Is God doing something good through the Coronavirus?” The question is, “What is the good God is doing?”

We're busy, which makes it harder for families to spend time together. God has dramatically slowed us down, and put us together in our homes. This can be a wonderful blessing, but only if families take advantage of this time by gathering around the Word of God. We have a greater opportunity than ever to obey Deuteronomy 6:4-9:

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."
