#STORYPOWER and the RAS - HOW “TIME TRAVEL” IS ACCOMPLISHED EFFECTIVELY. Watch the video #leadingleaderspodcast 4-7-20

Simply speaking, the RAS is like a filter responsible for what thoughts, memories, and stimulus input your conscious mind actual receives and processes. There are certain events in your life which may choose not to recall because they are too painful. There are other memories you wish you could recall, but the details are too fuzzy or vague. There are other memories which commonly come to mind based on someone’s voice, a sound in traffic, or a specific sight.

When a good storyteller uses properly placed emotive application of sights, and sounds they can invite you into a moment you haven’t considered in decades. They can also allow you to imagine a moment you have not yet experienced with such intense emotion you will have the sense it is a moment relived.

CAUTION: Storytellers who use this approach must be responsible and respectful in this practice because the assumption of reaction can be hurtful.

_______
noun: reticular activating system
a diffuse network of nerve pathways in the brainstem connecting the spinal cord, cerebrum, and cerebellum, and mediating the overall level of consciousness.
What is the main function of the reticular activating system?
The reticular activating system is a short, pencil-sized piece of the brain located just above where the spinal cord is attached to the brain. It acts as the gatekeeper of information between most sensory systems and the conscious mind.
