THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VOICES CLAMORING TO BE HEARD. HOW DO YOU INSURE YOURS IS A VOICE WORTH LISTENING TO?

ROAR IS A FILTER WHICH MUST BE APPLIED BY SERIOUS COMMUNICATORS

There are so many people these days who have a phone, a lamp, a microphone, and access to Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram and more... which means they now have A GLOBAL MEDIA PLATFORM.

Like it or not, anyone over the age of 3 who can turn on a cell phone and hit the LIVE button has equal access to share their ideas around the world. This is extremely liberating in one sense and borderline frightening in another. Anyone can SPEAK UP - not everyone should.

We now give the same access to attention and broadcast to a would be uni-bomber as to university professors... To waffle makers as to law makers... to judges as to judgmental loud mouths with ill intent.

Now more than ever before it is harder to verify and source truth. It is harder everyday to separate truth from opinion or covert lies. It becomes paramount for those who take up that position in front of a podcast mic or a LIVE camera to HOLD THEMSELVES ACCOUNTABLE to the highest standards.

It is also imperative that we be responsible FRIENDS of those who might intentionally or unintentionally spread salacious and inflammatory rhetoric. It is too easy with all the global access to our stream of information to see or hear something which directly fits our own confirmation biases and PROMOTE an idea that is for a malicious source. No matter how badly we want it to be true, perhaps it simply isn’t.

SO HERE’S YOUR FILTER
If you plan to share a post, article, news story or OPINION, before you hit SHARE or before you GO LIVE, ask yourself these four questions:

1. Is it RELEVANT?
Will the content I am about to spread be relevant to the people who pay attention to my thoughts and ideas? (Or am I saying it because it makes me feel better?)

2. Can I claim OWNERSHIP?
Is the story, the report, the experience something I have lived through myself, witnessed first hand or thoroughly researched? If not, its second hand lions at best. (That was a good movie)

3. Do I have AUTHORITY in this area?
Almost everyone has an opinion on almost everything, every thought, every decision. But do you have authority? Are you a quantifiable expert in the field? Will you stake your NAME, your BRAND, your REPUTATION on the accuracy of the information?

4. Am I willing to be RESPONSIBLE for how people feel about what I have to say?
In recent years, celebrities especially have voiced loudly their opinions and yet not been willing to stand behind the resulting chaos or fall out. Idle threats made at the top of their voice, accusations which held no merit at all and downright lies meant to get a rise out of a crowd. Sure anyone can RUFFLE FEATHERS - but if you were to be held to answer for how people respond to your words, would you still say it?

RESPONSIBLE also goes to INTENT.
How do you EXPECT, DESIRE or WISH for people to feel when you’re done? Hopeful? Empowered? Enlightened? Or enraged, aggravated and anxious?

Before you GO LIVE ask those questions and follow the advice of THUMPER’S MOTHER - “If you can’t say something nice...
