#STORYPOWER IS HOW CHILDHOOD STORIES SHAPE OR SABOTAGE TODAY’S SUCCESS by J Loren Norris

Most people have a slightly different view of their “growing up life” than their parents or even their siblings have of the same time period. This is because we all want to believe the very best about ourselves. We will naturally preserve “self” in the most threatening circumstances, even if that’s in the story of a memorable event.

The next level of #storypower truth is this: we carry OUR VIEW of that story forward into life. It becomes a BELIEF SYSTEM around which we make decisions. We decide if someone else is good or bad. We decide if an idea, a culture, a class or race of people, a social structure, an economic policy is GOOD OR BAD based on our own perceptions. These perceptions are often shaped by learning, by lecture, by leaders or by personal experiences. These personal experiences are FILTERED through our beliefs, which started with our CHILDHOOD STORIES. Are you with me so far?

If you “grew up” in an era when racism was common, when bigotry dominated Main Street, when sexism was “how business was done” then the stories you heard about negotiating a deal, closing a sale, getting the big win, WERE ALL TAINTED, skewed and corrupt!!!

If you “grew up” in a time, place and environment where you were never right, never trusted, never accepted because of your sex, sexual orientation or skin color, your own internal stories are likely corrupt as well. You have been lied to so long you will start to believe the lies, internalize the lies, repeat the lies, tell stories about your childhood which reinforce the lies. IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, you will live today as if those lies are true.

Childhood stories will either SHAPE or SABOTAGE your success! It is time to apply #storypower to those childhood memories and REWRITE each incident to realign the past with the truth, until they reconcile and resonate with your ideal future!
