IS CHIVALRY DEAD? WHY SHOULD I USE IT? by J Loren Norris

If chivalry means manipulation, dominating, abusing, taking advantage of others, then it should be “dead”. If the meaning of chivalry is exercising curtesy and politeness and friendliness with nothing to gain but becoming a better human - LONG LIVE CHIVALRY!

Many people were victimized by “old world ideas” of the dark ages such as the inquisition, human torture, barbarism, Attila the Hun, the burning of people at the stake and so on. As a result, many people look back on the era “before enlightenment” with grimacing horror. Certainly NOTHING GOOD can come from those days.

Consider the number of children who have been put to death before their first breath, the number of women and children who have been objectified and filmed in compromising positions for the entertainment of others, the insanely vast numbers of humans sold into sex slavery and trafficked the world around, the depth and magnitude of division based on sexism, racism and religious differences. ‘Enlightenment“ hasn't proved much kinder to humans in history than the dark ages.

WHY?

Because humans are selfish. Because humans want what’s best for themselves (even if it means giving as a manipulative tool to get it). Because humans are mean to each other, its in our nature.

HOWEVER, we can choose to be creative, compassionate, caring and kind. We can CHOOSE to live by a code which focuses on honor, the value of a human life, the depth of the soul and the equal appreciation of all things which LIVE in our universe. So, if not a morality based code of honor, sacrifice and service such as chivalry, what would you recommend?

Seriously, I want to hear your suggestions...
