Weather

Ko Lanta enjoys a warm, humid, tropical climate year round. From November to March, the temperature is a perfect 30 to 33 degrees Celsius with only the occasional rainfall. April and May are hot, dry months where temperatures increase to the high 30s, and there is little or no precipitation. From June to October it is monsoon season. It rains for about an hour on most days, temperatures drop to the high to mid-20s, and the wind shifts from easterlies to westerlies.

How to travel to Ko Lanta?

Ko Lanta is located in Krabi province in the south of Thailand. There is no airport on the island itself – the nearest airport is Krabi Airport. There are connections from Phuket Airport and Trang Airport too, although the travel times will be considerably longer.

Is there a bridge to Koh Lanta?
The two main islands of Koh Lanta (Ko Lanta Noi and Ko Lanta Yai) are connected by the Siri Lanta Bridge (sometimes called the Koh Lanta Bridge). This bridge was completed in April 2016. The new Koh Lanta Bridge would enable vehicles to travel from the mainland to the popular tourist areas in Ko Lanta Yai.

When to visit

The tourist season in Ko Lanta runs from October through April with the most visitors here December to March. An increasing number of people are visiting in Green Season (May to October) when daily rainfall usually only lasts a few hours.

Scooter/bike – By far the most convenient way to get around Koh Lanta is to rent a scooter/bike. This gives you the freedom to explore everything the island has to offer, without having to pay for multiple tuk tuk rides. Despite a few potholes here and there, the main roads are generally well paved.

Is Koh Lanta cheap?
Is Koh Lanta expensive? Overall, the Thai islands are always a bit more expensive than the mainland. In comparison to other Thai islands, Koh Lanta was a bit cheaper. You can find decent hostels at good prices, decent Thai dishes or expensive western meals.

Best Places to Visit in Koh Lanta

Klong Nin Beach has a village feel, with lots of beachfront restaurants and bars all close together and easily accessible by road.
Long Beach is also popular but as it’s over three kilometres long it rarely feels crowded.
Klong Dao Beach is the busiest beach on Ko Lanta as it’s the nearest to the island entry point in Saladan. It’s only a 10 minute drive from Saladan to Klong Dao.
Klong Khong is a quieter beach, more laid back and with some nice villas for rent within walking distance of the seafront.
Kantiang Bay is one of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches, a near-perfect crescent of sand and sea
Nui Bay is a tiny beach with very little development – great for a day visit.
Klong Jark Beach is also very quiet with little development
